Celebrate Haya Day – Valentine’s day is Haram

In essence, Valentine’s Day is not representative of “true love” but rather the affection lacking dedication seen in relationships between partners, partners with others outside of the relationship, and mistresses. This is essentially a manifestation of promiscuity and indulgence in carnal desires, which contributes to immorality.

What are you marking this day as? Are you commemorating your defiance of Allah (swt)? Or are you celebrating the loss of your virtue and modesty? Are you truly honoring the idea that both of you will lead each other to Hell?

Are you aware that Allah instructs us to avoid even approaching illicit behavior? If you disobey Allah in your relationship, He will not bless your love. Opt for the permissible path. Do not block your own path to paradise.

Individuals who argue that Valentine’s Day is meant to showcase affection towards parents, siblings, and spouses are expanding the scope of the holiday. There are other dedicated days for honoring mothers, fathers, and spouses, etc. These anniversaries based on the solar calendar were not practiced by early Muslims and are not endorsed by religious scholars.

For my married brothers and sisters, is Valentine’s Day the only day you consider giving gifts, flowers, and chocolates to your spouse? A husband and wife do not require Valentine’s Day to express their love, as they should love each other consistently and completely throughout the year.

Furthermore, because the bond between a husband and wife is sacred and everlasting, there is no need to designate a single day to celebrate it, as if their love for each other is heightened only on that day.

In addition, love in Islam is a valued concept that should be shared among all individuals. Specifically, romantic love should not be celebrated before marriage, as it often results in immorality.

Valentine’s Day is considered prohibited in Islam because it encourages relationships that are not in accordance with Islamic law, and because it involves mimicking non-believers. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said,

Whoever imitates a people is among them. Sunan Abi Dawud 4031

It is not acceptable for a Muslim to observe any of the non-believer’s holidays. May Allah (swt) protect and guide us all. Amen.

Saint Valentine was ultimately arrested, subjected to physical abuse, such as beating and stoning, and executed. None of the festive items like balloons, cakes, or trite messages convey this information!

Wishing a happy Valentine’s Day to my mother, father, wife, true siblings, sisters, and friends. This is the original idea behind Haya Day.

“Haya nhi hay Zamanay ki aankh me baqi,

Khuda karay teri Jawani rahay be-dagh”
