Research Editor · Energy Systems Engineer · Technology & Policy Analyst

I work where engineering, policy, culture, and markets intersect — the uncomfortable but necessary space where ideas are tested against consequences.

Trained as an Electronic Engineer from GIKI, my professional work spans renewable-energy systems, artificial intelligence, business intelligence, public-policy analysis, and socio-economic research. I founded and currently lead Zorays Solar, one of Pakistan’s leading renewable-energy EPC firms, but my work has always extended beyond commercial execution.

I write, design, and build with one principle in mind:

Systems fail when they ignore human behavior, cultural context, and incentives.

What I Do

Research, Writing & Editorial Work

I research and write across disciplines that shape modern societies:

  • Renewable-energy systems, grid economics, and regulation

  • Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Business Intelligence & NLG

  • Markets, incentives, and financial behavior

  • Social inequality, governance, and justice systems

My writing includes peer-reviewed research, technical analysis, and national policy commentary, including published opinion columns in The News International. I focus on clarity without dilution — translating complex systems into narratives that withstand scrutiny.

Engineering with Context

My engineering foundation is not theoretical.

My undergraduate work at GIKI included:

  • DSP-based Kalman filter sensor fusion (SUPARCO-sponsored)

  • Firmware development for OBD-II interfaces (STN1110)

  • Transformer fault analysis and power-electronics diagnostics

Professionally, I have designed and deployed hybrid solar systems, worked on inverter behavior under grid stress, and contributed to product innovation in UPS, battery, and power-backup systems during my tenure with Haier Pakistan.

I currently operate as Principal Design Engineer at Zorays Solar, while positioning myself publicly as a Solar & Wind Power Equipment Manufacturing Expert — because titles should reflect where you are going, not only where you are.

Policy, Culture & Public Discourse

In 2025, I published a nationally circulated column in The News International titled “Basant — But Smarter”, arguing that sustainability is not achieved by bans or symbolism, but by engineering safer systems that respect culture instead of erasing it.

The same philosophy informs my writing on energy policy.

Whether discussing net-metering reversals, gross-metering economics, or urban cultural practices, I argue from a systems perspective:

  • Identify the root cause

  • Engineer the constraint

  • Preserve social value

  • Avoid performative regulation

Progress that ignores culture fails.
Culture that ignores safety stagnates.
Engineering reconciles the two.

Markets & Incentives

I actively study market behavior, capital flows, and incentive structures, supported by hands-on exposure to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

Markets, like grids, are feedback systems.
Policy, like voltage, must be regulated — not suppressed.

This lens informs my work on:

  • Renewable-energy adoption economics

  • Policy-driven distortions

  • Long-term vs short-term capital behavior

  • Data interpretation beyond surface metrics

Research & Publications

I have authored and contributed to multiple technical and research papers, including:

  • Direct Control of Three-Phase Smart Load for Neutral Current Mitigation

  • Stochastic vs Robust Optimization of Wind-Hydro Power Plants

  • Fault Analysis of Inverter-Fed Induction Motors under DC-Link Failure

Alongside this, I have produced extensive independent research on:

  • AI & Machine-Learning algorithms

  • Intelligent narratives in BI systems

  • Automated financial communication

  • Crime, inequality, and social justice

  • Civil-rights evolution and governance

Some work is published. Some remains intentionally independent.
All of it is written to withstand time, not trends.

Exposure & Experience

My work has taken me across engineering labs, policy forums, and international platforms, including:

  • UK Parliament (All-Party Parliamentary Group on Energy Storage)

  • UNIDO Renewable-Energy Mentorship

  • International Olympic Committee (Technical Assistant, ethics & compliance)

  • APO Japan-sponsored sustainability programs

  • Startup judging panels (LUMS, Hult Prize, Startup Istanbul)

I have worked with — and learned from — institutions such as Schlumberger, Ericsson, AKSA, NPL UK, and NPLI India, spanning drilling systems, telecom infrastructure, PCB design, and applied electronics.

Personal Ethos

I fix problems, not blame.
I value impact over process.
I believe humility compounds faster than ego.

I respect disagreement. I avoid politics.
I take calculated risks and meet deadlines early.

Jealousy is noise.
Curiosity is fuel.

Why This Site Exists

zorayskhalid.com is not a résumé.

It is a thinking space — where technology, culture, policy, and markets are discussed as they actually behave, not as they are advertised.

If you are looking for:

  • comfortable narratives → this may not suit you

  • rigorous thinking → welcome

Engage

I collaborate selectively on:

  • research editing & analytical writing

  • energy-policy commentary

  • technology-to-executive narratives

  • long-form systems analysis
