What’s the Fitrana amount this year?

Sadqah-e-Fitr, also known as Zakat al-Fitr or Fitrana, is an obligatory charity given by Muslims at the end of Ramadan before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. It is a form of purification of one’s fast and is intended to provide food and other basic necessities to those in need, especially the poor and the needy so that they too can enjoy the Eid festivities.

The amount of Sadqah-e-Fitr is typically equivalent to the cost of one meal (or 2.5-3.5 pounds) of the staple food of the region. It is mandatory for every Muslim who possesses the nisab (minimum amount of wealth) to pay this charity on behalf of themselves and their dependents.

Sadqah-e-Fitr can be paid anytime during the month of Ramadan, but it is recommended to pay it before the Eid prayer so that the needy can receive it in time. It can be given directly to the needy or through a trustworthy Islamic organization that distributes it to deserving recipients. You can pay according to any grain as per your will and budget. In Saudia, people offer 3 Kg of rice per head (roughly 18 SAR).
