The Muslim World’s Position Is Unambiguous
On 27 December 2025, 21 Arab, Islamic, and African states issued a joint declaration rejecting Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as:
-
A violation of Somalia’s sovereignty
-
A breach of international law
-
A destabilising precedent
Among them:
-
Qatar
-
Saudi Arabia
-
Organization of Islamic Cooperation
-
Arab League
Notably silent:
-
United Arab Emirates
-
Bahrain
-
Morocco
Silence is not neutrality.
It is alignment without accountability.
Palestine’s Position Is Clear — And Consistent
The State of Palestine reaffirmed:
-
Full support for Somalia’s unity
-
Total rejection of any Israel–Somaliland recognition
-
Warning against destabilisation and displacement narratives
President Mahmoud Abbas did not mince words.
This is not selective outrage.
Palestine has never recognised Somaliland — nor Israel.
Consistency matters.
The UAE Signal Problem
Here is an uncomfortable fact Somalilanders deserve to interrogate:
-
The most active pro-normalisation accounts praising Israel–Somaliland ties
-
Are created in the UAE
-
Post from the UAE
-
Do not live in Somaliland
-
Do not bear the consequences
Digital cheerleading is cheap.
Living with the fallout is not.
“But Somalia Chairs the UN Security Council?”
Yes.
In January, United Nations Security Council rotates its presidency — and Somalia holds the slot.
This irony is loud.
But international hypocrisy does not justify moral shortcuts.
A failed state can still be used as cover.
That doesn’t make the cover clean.
