What nobody should be allowed to bury
The greatest scandal may ultimately extend beyond the physical violence. The questions now concern how an investigation could move so confidently towards suicide when the later examination documented a posterior firearm entry and extensive injuries.
Why were the head, face, rib and other injuries not adequately recorded or explained during the original examination? What scene reconstruction supported the police theory? Was the firearm recovered, and if so, was it examined for fingerprints, DNA and discharge residue? Were Mir Raza’s hands properly tested for gunshot residue? Were blood patterns, cartridge cases, projectiles and the condition of the surrounding vegetation documented before contamination? Who possessed, edited or leaked CCTV footage? Why were investigators discussing the family’s marital and financial affairs publicly while the identity of the killer remained unknown?
These are not accusations of guilt against every officer or doctor associated with the case. They are unavoidable accountability questions produced by the contradiction between the first process and the second examination.
Changing the investigating officers is not enough. The original investigation must itself become an evidence trail: who made each decision, what material they relied upon, which samples were collected, which were omitted, who authorised public briefings, and whether any information was suppressed, mishandled or leaked.
The cryptocurrency theory must be investigated—not converted into another rumour
A theory circulating online alleges that Mir Raza may have been seeking funds, possessed cryptocurrency assets, and was abducted by an organised gang that forced access to a crypto wallet before attempting to erase his identity and killing him.
That theory is serious enough to examine and too serious to publish as established fact.
A cryptocurrency-related robbery would normally leave recoverable technical traces: wallet addresses, blockchain transactions, exchange-account records, login notifications, device identifiers, IP logs, two-factor authentication events, SIM activity, cloud backups and possible conversion through exchanges or peer-to-peer intermediaries. Even privacy-focused transfers often produce surrounding metadata through phones, bank accounts or exchange onboarding.
Investigators should therefore secure Mir Raza’s devices and accounts through a documented chain of custody; obtain authorised records from relevant banks, exchanges and telecommunications companies; identify wallet addresses without publicly exposing private keys or recovery phrases; trace transfers before and after his disappearance; examine whether any device was reset; and determine whether unknown accounts contacted him about loans, investments, payments or business funding.
His reportedly surfaced WhatsApp audio discussing cheques or payments is not proof that he was suicidal, kidnapped or involved in cryptocurrency. Businesspeople discuss receivables, cheques and liquidity every day. The recording must first be authenticated through the source device, metadata and voice comparison. Even then, its meaning must be evaluated in context rather than packaged into another character-assassination broadcast.
The family’s statement that the voice was not Mir Raza’s—or that it was not a conversation involving his father—must likewise be investigated forensically. Television speculation cannot authenticate audio.
Was an IG Sindh resignation announced?
No verified resignation by the Sindh inspector general has been established in the available reporting as of August 9, 2026. What has been confirmed is that a new investigation team was constituted and murder-related provisions were added to the FIR.
According to Dawn’s report on the reconstituted investigation, the case is now being supervised under Sections 365, 302 and 201 of the Pakistan Penal Code, covering kidnapping, murder and causing evidence to disappear or providing false information to screen an offender. That is an important correction, but it is not institutional accountability by itself.
Demanding an immediate resignation may deliver a headline; demanding an auditable investigation can deliver evidence. The IG should publicly explain the basis on which suicide was emphasised, disclose who approved the earlier investigative direction, ensure the new team has no conflict of interest and publish time-bound progress that does not compromise the prosecution.
If official misconduct, deliberate suppression or unlawful pressure is established, responsibility must move upward rather than ending with the quiet transfer of junior officers.
