Mir Raza Ali Case: Second Post-Mortem Shatters the Easy Narrative, but Karachi Still Needs the Whole Truth

Mir Raza Ali’s second post-mortem documents a rear gunshot and extensive injuries, exposing failures that demand an independent Karachi investigation.

Mir Raza Ali case second post-mortem report examined after alleged Karachi murder

A young man disappears, his body is recovered from bushes with a gunshot wound, the police publicly lean towards suicide, his parents are subjected to suspicion, and parts of his private life are dragged onto television—then a court-backed second examination documents a bullet entering from the back and numerous injuries across his body. This is no longer merely a dispute between two medical reports. It is a test of whether Karachi’s criminal-justice system investigates unexplained deaths to discover the truth or constructs a convenient conclusion and pressures a grieving family to live with it.

Kudos are due to M. Jibran Nasir for refusing to let the Mir Raza Ali case disappear beneath police briefings, anonymous insinuations and the obscene media appetite for private family details. Credit is also due to Shahzeb Khanzada for placing the forensic contradictions before a national audience instead of treating the original narrative as settled fact. Advocacy and journalism have not solved the murder, identified its perpetrators or established its motive, but they appear to have helped preserve the questions that an investigation should have asked from the beginning.

What happened to Mir Raza Ali?

Mir Raza Ali, the 25-year-old owner of the Wafflix dessert business, went missing in Karachi on July 28, 2026. His body was found the following day in bushes near Shahi Qila Ground in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The family maintained that he had been abducted and murdered, while the initial police investigation increasingly focused on suicide.

The family challenged the original process, leading to a court-directed exhumation and second post-mortem by an eight-member medical board. The examination was eventually conducted on August 8 after a controversy over changes to the board’s composition. The original panel was restored following the family’s objections.

The resulting findings materially changed the evidentiary picture. According to Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed, Mir Raza had injuries to his head and face, fractures involving his nasal bone and skull, injuries to his right flank and feet, and a congealed dark substance in his mouth and throat. She said the bullet entered through the back, fractured a rib and exited through the front. Samples were preserved for DNA, chemical and gunshot-residue testing, while the final cause-of-death opinion remained reserved pending laboratory results. Dawn reported these findings directly from the police surgeon.

That final qualification matters. The examination has produced powerful evidence inconsistent with the simplistic public narrative, but the complete medical-board opinion still depends on laboratory analysis. Accuracy does not weaken the demand for justice; it protects that demand from being discredited later.

Key forensic findings from the second post-mortem

Forensic finding What has been reported Evidentiary significance
Firearm entry wound Located on the upper-right posterior side of the back Strongly contradicts descriptions implying a straightforward self-inflicted shot to the chest
Exit wound Located on the left side of the chest Establishes a back-to-front wound track requiring reconstruction through trajectory and scene evidence
Rib fracture The projectile track reportedly fractured the sixth rib Supports significant internal trauma along the firearm path
Head and facial injuries Multiple wounds, with reported fractures of the nasal bone and skull Requires investigators to determine mechanism, timing and whether the injuries resulted from assault
Other bodily injuries Injuries were documented on the neck, chest, flank, thigh and feet The distribution cannot responsibly be dismissed without forensic reconstruction
Timing of injuries Reporting describes multiple injuries as ante-mortem Indicates that the injuries were sustained while Mir Raza was alive
Dark substance Congealed black material was recovered from the mouth and throat Chemical testing is necessary before anyone claims poisoning, forced ingestion or another mechanism
Samples retained Blood, tissue, skin, hair, teeth and firearm-related material were collected These may assist identity confirmation, toxicology, DNA comparison and gunshot-residue analysis
Cause of death Final opinion reserved pending laboratory results The preliminary findings are significant, but the complete medical conclusion is not yet available

The Express Tribune’s account of the re-post-mortem similarly reports an entry wound on the upper-right back, an exit wound through the left chest, a fractured sixth rib, internal bleeding and numerous ante-mortem injuries. Geo News reported wounds across the body and said the earlier investigation team was removed after the new medical findings emerged. Geo’s report also describes facial, nasal, chest and rib injuries.

The central forensic conclusion is therefore clear: the second examination produced substantial evidence that required the case to be investigated as a suspected homicide rather than prematurely presented as suicide.

It does not, by itself, identify the shooter, establish an abduction, prove a particular motive or implicate any named political figure. Those questions belong to a properly preserved trail of digital, financial, physical and testimonial evidence.
