Is corporate entrepreneurship the same as innovation?
They overlap, but they are not identical. Innovation is the implemented new or significantly improved product or process. Corporate entrepreneurship describes the organizational behaviour and venture-building process used to create that value inside an existing company.
Why do good corporate ideas fail?
They commonly fail because the problem was never validated, customers do not adopt the solution, technical and commercial teams work separately, internal incentives favour existing operations, sponsorship disappears or an immature venture is judged through mature-business financial metrics.
Does innovation require a separate department?
Not necessarily. A dedicated unit can provide focus and protection, but it can also become isolated from customers and operations. The appropriate structure depends on the venture’s uncertainty, strategic importance, technical requirements and relationship with the core business.
