Decaf Coffee and Methylene Chloride: Facts Before Fear

How decaf coffee is processed, what the US 10 ppm residue limit means, and why clear information matters more than frightening slogans.

Clear labels beat frightening slogans

My view is that roasters and retailers should make the decaffeination method easy to find and answer questions about residue testing directly. Buyers should be able to compare processes without being pushed towards either an unsupported scare story or a blanket assurance.

The case for transparency is strong enough without inventing numbers, calling a published regulation a myth, or claiming that a social-media thread proves population-wide harm. A useful coffee label tells us what was done. A useful article explains what the evidence can—and cannot—show.
