Dr Samarmubarak Mand The Convenient Villain: How Profit.pk Frames the Story

Profit.pk’s Thar coal critique misses the real story: R&D vs policy failure. Here’s the truth about Dr Samar Mubarakmand, gasification, and Pakistan’s energy choice

R&D vs “Wastage”: The Core Misunderstanding

The most intellectually dishonest framing remains the labeling of such efforts as “wastage.”

It is not wastage.
It is R&D.

And R&D, by definition, includes failure.

If the gasification experiments had succeeded at scale, the same voices would be celebrating Pakistan exporting synthetic gas across borders, exactly as envisioned. The dream only becomes “stupidity” after it doesn’t materialize.

That is not analysis—that is opportunism.

What Pakistan Actually Needs to Learn

The lesson is not that Pakistan should stop experimenting.

The lesson is that Pakistan must:

Build continuity in scientific funding
Separate experimentation from political cycles
Develop multi-path energy strategies (grid + storage + localized generation)
Stop personalizing systemic failures

Because the real tragedy is not that experiments failed.

The real tragedy is that every time Pakistan tries something ambitious, it ensures that the next generation becomes too afraid to try again.
