Apple iPhone Duo vs Samsung: The Foldable War, the Crease Fight and the Jibes That Became the Product Launch

Apple’s iPhone Duo turns the foldable-phone race into a battle over creases, software, engineering maturity and the brands controlling technology culture.

What happens to foldables now?

Apple’s $1,999 price does not make foldables affordable. It makes them aspirational.

Yet Apple’s entry may still expand the entire category. Developers now have an incentive to design interfaces for both Android and iOS foldables. Accessory companies gain another premium market. Suppliers receive pressure to improve flexible displays, hinges, coatings and batteries. Samsung gains a powerful competitor but also validation that the market it spent years constructing was not a dead end.

The greatest threat to Samsung is not that Apple’s first foldable has no crease. It does.

The threat is that millions of customers who ignored folding phones when Samsung promoted them may suddenly decide that the form factor makes sense because it now runs iOS. The greatest threat to Apple is equally clear: at $1,999, every weakness will be judged as a premium failure, and Samsung has years of field experience waiting to expose first-generation mistakes.

For Pakistani consumers, the discussion must move beyond launch-day applause. Imported flagship phones arrive under currency pressure, taxation, registration costs and limited repair pathways. Before spending the equivalent of a serious household investment, buyers should wait for independent durability tests, local network compatibility, PTA implications, warranty coverage and genuine long-term reviews.

Apple has not ended the foldable contest. It has finally made the contest impossible to ignore.

Samsung built the road, Apple arrived with the parade, Duolingo supplied the heckling, and consumers will now decide whether a folding screen represents meaningful utility or simply the most expensive new way to check notifications.
