Mushtaq Khan’s Funeral, His Reported Mosque Wish, and the Question Bollywood Must Answer

Mushtaq Khan’s funeral drew Raza Murad’s rebuke of Bollywood stars. His reported mosque bequest also exposed a troubling debate over Muslim faith in India.

The inheritance discussion also needs care. Qur’an 4:11–12 sets out prescribed shares for heirs, while the often cited report in Sahih al-Bukhari 2742 discusses a bequest of up to one third. A transfer made during a person’s lifetime is a different matter from property inherited after death. Without the document, dates of transfer, debts, valuation of the land and full family circumstances, nobody in a comment thread can certify Khan’s estate distribution or calculate each person’s actual entitlement. If his reported wish is to be honoured, establishing those facts protects his daughters, wife, sons and charitable intention alike. القرآن الكريم

What Bollywood owes Khan—and what the public owes his family

Murad’s rebuke cuts because it comes from within the profession. Supporting actors make the worlds around leading stars believable; audiences remember their scenes even when posters give them little space. Khan’s colleagues who came to his funeral should be acknowledged, and the prominent figures Murad addressed should hear his question without being assigned an unproven political excuse. Fame is no substitute for showing up when a fellow artist’s family is grieving.
