Türkiye’s TPAO is preparing to drill offshore Pakistan, but exploration is not discovery. Here is what the project means for energy security and investment.

When is offshore drilling expected to begin?

Ali Pervaiz Malik indicated September or October 2026. A precise drilling date, well location and rig name were not disclosed in the reports reviewed.

Does TPAO have offshore expertise?

Yes. TPAO is Türkiye’s national petroleum company and has experience in offshore seismic exploration and drilling. Experience lowers execution risk but cannot guarantee geological success.

Will this reduce Pakistan’s petrol prices?

Not immediately. Any price impact would depend on a commercial discovery, development cost, production volume, global prices, taxation and domestic pricing policy.
