I once doubted Khan’s crowds. That memory does not decide this march.
Years ago, I stood at an Imran Khan jalsa near D-Chowk with my parents and came away unconvinced. I wrote about people leaving during the speech, questioned the enthusiasm I had seen, and called the politics of promised change a “Tanga Party” performance. That account was an eyewitness opinion about one gathering. Its crowd estimates were my impressions, not an audited count, and they cannot predict attendance on September 27.
What the memory does preserve is a useful distinction. Going to a rally does not mean promising someone your vote. Criticising Khan does not mean accepting every restriction imposed on his supporters. Pakistanis have room to hold both views. I can still question PTI’s claims about what a march will achieve while asking the state to explain why a commuter, a patient or a transporter should lose access to a road.
