Pakistan does not need resignations over every case of embarrassing optics, nor does it need online mobs abusing families, threatening officials or assigning criminal guilt without evidence. It needs proportionate accountability that improves the system.
The Interior Ministry, CDA and Islamabad Police should publish the event plan, identify the designated chief guest, disclose the approving authority for the buggy arrangement, provide the ceremony’s itemised public cost and explain the protocol under which the vehicle was reassigned. If no rule was broken, the documents will establish that. If the spectacle complied with outdated rules, then the rules themselves require reform.
More importantly, the government should adopt a national simplicity code for public ceremonies. Events should start at the announced time; ceremonial transport should be restricted to historically justified state occasions; ministers and civil servants should enter without feudal theatrics; expenses should be disclosed after major public celebrations; and crowd access, traffic diversion and complaint reports should be published within a fixed period.
That would convert outrage into reform.
