Why has Pakistan Hockey deteriorated?

Pakistan has won the Hockey World Cup four times. Pakistan has won the Hockey World Cup four times: 1971, 1978, 1982, and 1994. They also earned two silver medals in 1975 and 1990. Although they have not won a Hockey World Cup in 29 years, Pakistan is still the most successful team in terms of the number of World Cup victories. Pakistan has a strong history of success in the Hockey World Cup, having won the tournament more times than any other team. However, for the 2023 Hockey World Cup in Odisha, Pakistan has not qualified to participate.

First and foremost, Italy, a country with a successful history in football, including winning four World Cups and having the top league in Europe, failed to qualify for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, despite being ranked among the top 15 teams in the world. Although Italy remains a strong football team with a history of producing talented players and recent success in the Euros, Pakistan’s hockey team has not been competitive on the international stage for several decades and cannot be compared to Italy’s football team.
