Within minutes of the ANI tweet, X users such as @nporchelvan and @NMukherjee6 flooded the platform with “Om Shanti” and nostalgic quotes. These are “attributed allegations” – personal reactions that repeat the ANI claim but add no independent verification. The platform, however, also hosts endless threads on corporate rivalries and diplomatic theatrics, like Pakistan’s invitation to Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, that never touch a single life. The editorial energy spent on fame versus systemic failure is glaring.
What does this tell us about responsibility? The state’s emergency infrastructure is incentivised by headlines, not by the silent majority who die without a timestamp. The media’s focus on a star’s final minutes creates a false sense that the system works – it works for the famous, not for the farmer whose heart stops in a field with no ambulance in sight.
