Sky47 Is Not Pakistan’s AI Victory Yet — It Is the Infrastructure Test We Can No Longer Fake

Sky47 gives Pakistan an 8.5MW AI-ready data centre, but real sovereignty depends on power, water, privacy, utilisation and public accountability over time.

Is Sky47 already Tier IV certified?

The publicly visible Uptime Institute listing reviewed for this article shows Tier III Certification of Design Documents for Karakoram-01. It does not publicly show a Tier IV Constructed Facility certification. Sky47 should disclose the exact status and scope of each certification phase.

Will the data centre cause load-shedding?

There is no public evidence proving that the facility will directly cause residential load-shedding. Its grid effect depends on actual demand, utilisation, supply arrangements, generation availability, cooling efficiency, storage and system constraints. Publishing a grid-impact and energy-sourcing report would resolve much of this debate.

Will Sky47 be used for surveillance?

A data centre can host surveillance systems, but its existence does not establish that it is being used unlawfully. The risk depends on which datasets are hosted, who can access them, what laws apply, how activity is logged and whether independent oversight exists. Pakistan therefore needs enforceable personal-data protections before centralised state-cloud adoption expands.
