What is the most powerful follow-up question?

Often it is a variation of “What makes that important?” or “Can you walk me through what happened?” The best wording depends on what was just said; relevance is precisely what gives a follow-up its power.

Can asking questions make a person look inexperienced?

Unprepared questions can. Precise questions that identify assumptions, consequences or missing evidence usually signal disciplined thinking. Pretending to know something that will later be exposed is far more damaging.

The Question That Changes the Room

Better business conversations do not begin when somebody discovers a clever script. They begin when someone becomes genuinely unwilling to proceed on assumptions.

It can turn a client’s complaint into a solvable process, an employee’s experience into organisational knowledge and a wandering meeting into a decision with ownership.
