When Pakistan International Airlines posted, “The wait is over. Introducing PIA’s new uniform, designed by Hassan Sheheryar Yasin (HSY),” the tweet instantly turned into a flash‑mob of emojis, hashtags and, unsurprisingly, a chorus of sighs. A fresh green jacket on a cabin crew member looks sharp on a glossy photo, but the airline’s own announcement does not hide the fact that PIA is still a two‑star carrier struggling to meet basic service standards.

The uniform as a distraction
PIA’s official X post is unmistakable: the carrier has commissioned a celebrated Pakistani designer to dress its cabin crew. That fact alone is commendable – it showcases homegrown talent and gives the airline a dash of national pride. Yet the same post offers no hint of how the new look will translate into safer, more reliable flights. In the same week, a screenshot circulating from Skytrax and AirlineRatings shows PIA languishing at a 2‑star rating, with an overall passenger score of 5.2 / 10, and sub‑scores for in‑flight entertainment, check‑in and baggage handling all hovering around the low‑mid‑range. The numbers are stark; the uniform is not.
